When I was fifteen, sixteen when I started really to play the guitar
I definitely wanted to become a musician
It was almost impossible because the dream was so big
I didn't see any chance because I was living in a little town, I was studying.
And when I finally broke away from school and became I musician
I thought "well I may have a bit of a chance"
Because all I every wanted to do is music but not only play music
But compose music.
At that time, in Germany, in 1969-70, they already had discotheques
So I would take my car and go to a discotheque and sing maybe 30 minutes
I think I had about 7-8 songs. I would partially sleep in the car
Because I didn't want to drive home and that help me for about almost 2 years to survive.
In the beginning, I wanted to do a album with the sound of the 50s,
The sound of the 60s, of the 70s and then have a sound of the future.
And I said: "Wait a second?
I know the synthesizer, why don't I use the synthesizer
Which is the sound of the future."
And I didn't have any idea what to do but I knew I needed a click
So we put a click on the 24 track which was then synch to the moog modular.
I knew that it could be a sound of the future
But I didn't realize how much impact it would be.
My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio.
You want to free your mind about a concept of harmony and of music being correct,
You can do whatever you want.
So nobody told me what to do, and there was no preconception of what to do.
The song "Giorgio By Moroder" by Daft Punk features a spoken word section by the legendary Italian musician, Giorgio Moroder. In the section, Moroder talks about his journey to becoming a musician, including his struggles and his use of technology in creating music. He starts by talking about his teenage years when he started playing the guitar, his desire to become a musician, and how almost impossible it seemed due to the small town he was from and his studies. After he began pursuing music as a career, he would perform at discotheques around Germany and sleep in his car to survive.
Moroder then narrates how he came up with the idea of using a synthesizer, which was perceived as the sound of the future, in his music production to create a sound that transcends time. He was not exactly sure what to do but knew he needed a click, which was then synched to a moog modular to create an exceptional futuristic sound. Moroder then talks about how he did not receive any instruction on what to do when it comes to creating music, so he was free to express his creativity and create whatever he wanted.
These lyrics paint a vivid picture of Giorgio Moroder's journey and the hardships he went through in pursuit of his passion. He is seen as a pioneer in the world of electronic music, using technology to create new sounds that were ahead of their time. The lyrics of this song remind us that pursuing one's passion is not always easy but can lead to greatness if one is persistent and true to themselves.
When I was fifteen, sixteen when I started really to play the guitar
I started playing the guitar seriously when I was around 15 or 16 years of age.
I definitely wanted to become a musician
Becoming a musician was a definite goal for me.
It was almost impossible because the dream was so big
The dream was so big that it seemed nearly impossible to achieve.
I didn't see any chance because I was living in a little town, I was studying.
I didn't see any opportunities for achieving my dream of becoming a musician while living in a small town and attending school.
And when I finally broke away from school and became I musician
After finishing school, I pursued my dream of becoming a musician.
I thought "well I may have a bit of a chance"
I felt that I had a small chance of achieving my dream.
Because all I every wanted to do is music but not only play music
My passion for music extended beyond just playing music.
But compose music.
I also had a strong desire to compose music.
At that time, in Germany, in 1969-70, they already had discotheques
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, discotheques already existed in Germany.
So I would take my car and go to a discotheque and sing maybe 30 minutes
I would drive to a discotheque and perform for around 30 minutes.
I think I had about 7-8 songs. I would partially sleep in the car
I only had a few songs to perform and sometimes slept in my car to avoid driving home.
Because I didn't want to drive home and that help me for about almost 2 years to survive.
This strategy helped me survive financially for almost 2 years.
In the beginning, I wanted to do a album with the sound of the 50s,
Initially, my idea was to create an album with the sound of the 1950s.
The sound of the 60s, of the 70s and then have a sound of the future.
I also wanted to include sounds from the 1960s, 1970s, and a futuristic sound.
And I said: "Wait a second?
At one point, I had a realization.
I know the synthesizer, why don't I use the synthesizer
I knew about the synthesizer and thought to include it in my music.
Which is the sound of the future."
I believed that the synthesizer was a sound of the future.
And I didn't have any idea what to do but I knew I needed a click
I wasn't sure how to incorporate the synthesizer but knew I needed a click track.
So we put a click on the 24 track which was then synch to the moog modular.
We added a click track to the 24-track recorder and synchronized it with the Moog modular synthesizer.
I knew that it could be a sound of the future
I believed that using the synthesizer had potential for becoming a sound of the future.
But I didn't realize how much impact it would be.
However, I underestimated the significant impact it would make.
My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio.
I go by the name Giorgio, despite my given name being Giovanni Giorgio.
You want to free your mind about a concept of harmony and of music being correct,
To release oneself from the constraints of harmonies and traditional musical correctness,
You can do whatever you want.
one has the freedom to make any type of music.
So nobody told me what to do, and there was no preconception of what to do.
There was no one dictating what type of music I should make and no preconceived notions on what I should create.
